Screening Room

mmag announces a new art residency for 2026 in the Screening Room. Two applicants will be selected for this three-month program: one from April to June, and one from September to November.

This residency offers a focused period for research, experimentation, and curatorial or artistic work centered on film and the moving image. It is designed for artists, researchers, curators, and practitioners engaging with cinema and audiovisual practices in expanded ways and supports projects in development.

The residency approaches film as a contextual and relational practice, exploring how moving images circulate, are archived, remembered, and collectively experienced. Applicants are invited to consider how film can be activated through thematic programs, screening series, collective viewing, or research into film collections, and how these approaches might respond to specific social, cultural, or historical contexts.

The program creates time and space for research and reflection, while encouraging residents to work at the intersection of individual inquiry and public engagement. Residents are encouraged to develop their own project while also activating the Screening Room through curated screenings, discussions, reading groups, or other formats that invite collective viewing and exchange. Public engagement is understood as an extension of the research process, rather than a finalized program or presentation.

During the residency, selected artists will have access to mmag’s Screening Room, alongside curatorial support and technical assistance. Projects are encouraged to evolve through dialogue with the space, the audience, and the broader cultural context in which the screenings take place.

This residency is open to artists and cultural practitioners who work with film, cinema, moving image, and related research or curatorial practices. We welcome applications from artists of all backgrounds without exception. Priority will be given to artists residing in Jordan. Applicants based outside Jordan are expected to cover their own travel and living expenses in Amman, with the possibility of accommodation being provided.

Applications close on March 5, 2026
