Palestine Cinema Days: "Curfew" directed by Rashid Masharawi

2 November, 2023

Two months after the beginning of the genocide in Gaza, MMAG hosted the forcibly canceled Palestine Film Days festival and screened Rashid Masharawi's Until Further Notice. The film was produced in 1993 and was considered by the Egyptian film critic, Samir Farid, to be the first Palestinian film because it was produced in the Occupied Palestinian Territories by a fully Palestinian crew. The film festival was cancelled in Palestine in 2023 as international media outlets, world leaders and major social media platforms engaged in censorship, distortion and misrepresentation of the Palestinian narrative. This screening, held on the 106th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration (November 2, 2023), sought to amplify Palestinian voices, bring the community in solidarity together, and provide a space for people to discuss and reflect.
