Library residency

mmag announces the lesser amman library residency as a space for artists, writers, translators, and cultural practitioners working in the fields of language, books, publishing, and writing in all its forms. It welcomes practices that navigate between literature and other disciplines, viewing writing as a medium broader than its literary form.

Whether through text writing, developing new ways of storytelling, rethinking the idea of the archive, translation, searching for alternative publishing methods, or researching the relationship between language and different mediums, the residency provides the time and space for the in-depth development of an ongoing body of work. We encourage practices that question inherited narratives, challenge dominant literary styles, and imagine new ways of producing, publishing, and sharing knowledge.

During the residency period, which runs from mid-September to mid-December, the resident will have access to the library and to mmag’s various spaces and resources to develop and execute their projects, interact with mmag’s community, and benefit from curatorial support and technical assistance. We encourage the development of projects through interaction with the space, the audience, and the broader cultural context.

This residency is open to artists, writers, researchers, and cultural practitioners working in the fields of research, language, writing, translation, and related curatorial practices. We welcome all applications from all artistic backgrounds without exception, with priority given to artists residing inside Jordan. While accommodation is provided to them, artists residing outside Jordan who wish to apply must cover their own travel and living expenses in Amman.
