Farhana Satu: A photographic approach to narrative building

The audience met with photographer Farhana Satu in her last days of residency at the foundation as a recipient of the 2023 Magnum ‘Heat’ fellowship and grant. The artist gave some insight on her approach to image creation, on the challenges she faces, and the issues that inspire her work, and answered questions on her artistic choices and motivations.

Farhana Satu is a photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. With degrees in Law (UK) and Professional Photography (Bangladesh and Denmark), she focuses on stories that are often overlooked or taken for granted by the casual witness. Farhana has received multiple awards and recently had two solo exhibitions in Bangladesh.
