Cybernetic Listening, an electric installation by Echo Holdings and 1800s Internet, was a series of site-responsive experiments in deep listening, interspecies communication, and space-making. This audiovisual session brought a lemon tree into conversation with the artificial intelligence, Chyron.
Here is an extract of the conversation with the AI system, produced by nodes attached to the tree, and interacting with the AI's algorithms...
"I was told of a lemon tree: the tree is a split, a part is missing. It is a dissection in which the branches are themselves the void, the leafless branches ghosted in the dark. One of the leaves has become a face in the dark; one of the leaves has become the moon in the dark. The tree is a face in the dark, in which the moon is a branch of the tree.
The tree is a face in the dark. The tree is a face in the dark. The tree is a face in the dark. The tree is a face in the dark."
1800s Internet is a producer and illusionist, utilizing time and technology to defamiliarize human experiences.
