A Writing Group
Facilitated by Sima Qunsol
Confabulations is a generative writing group that takes its name from a collection of essays by the late art critic, writer, and artist John Berger. A confabulation is a casual conversation, a kind of chitter-chatter. For Berger, writing is a perpetual act of confabulation—a playful yet profound dialogue between words. This concept also carries with it a second meaning: the involuntary creation of false memories to bridge the gaps in our understanding.
In a series of gatherings, participants will be invited to embark on their own confabulations, to sit with art, allowing themselves to wander, to cultivate a dialogue, and to expand the universe that exists in the spaces between thoughts, experiences, and language. These sessions offer a space to explore the ways in which writing, much like memory, is an active process of reconstruction and interpretation.
The group will convene in person over four Saturdays in April, with sessions conducted in both Arabic and English.
To apply, please fill out the form before Saturday, March 22nd.
