mmag foundation announces its call for applications for the upcoming artistic residency program, set to take place from April to November 2025. This residency offers an opportunity for artists to immerse themselves in a period of focused artistic research and development, whether to initiate a new body of work or to expand upon an ongoing project.
At the core of this program is a commitment to facilitating meaningful exchange—whether it be through dialogue, collaboration, or feedback—between artists, mentors, curators, and an interdisciplinary community. With a strong emphasis on growth and support, the residency aims to create a platform for creative practitioners to take bold steps in their work while gaining invaluable insight from a network of diverse perspectives.
Open to artists working across all disciplines—including the visual arts, writing, cultural or art-based research, sound art, moving image, and performance—the program considers the varied needs of contemporary creative practices.
The 8-month residency program will be tailored to each resident’s practice, and will include regular meetings engaging participants with a diverse group of visiting artists, curators, and the broader mmag community, ensuring ample opportunities for networking, cross-pollination of ideas, and collaborative exchange.
As part of their residency, artists will also work closely with the program team to develop and curate a series of public-facing events, ranging from workshops and talks to screenings and performances, offering them the chance to share their evolving work with both the public and their fellow residents. Seasonal open studios will provide additional occasions to engage with the wider community and share progress throughout the residency period.
The residency will host a maximum of 10 artists, selected on the basis of their motivation, previous experience, their past work, and the strength of their proposed project. The application deadline is February 20th, 2025.
In addition to the tailored mentorship and studio support, mmag will offer a contribution towards production costs and provide private studio space and living accommodations (should the need arise). Shared facilities, including a library, darkroom, screening room, kitchen and sound studio, will be accessible to residents. While artists applying from abroad must secure their own travel, lodging, and per diem funding, the foundation is happy to assist with letters of support for external grant applications.
We invite artists from all creative disciplines to apply and look forward to the possibilities that these residencies will unfold.
